Daughter of the Nereids, Nereus and Doris is represented by saltwater. Having seen her dance near the island of Naxos, the god of the sea, Neptune, fell madly in love with Amphitrite. Refusing his offer of marriage, she fled to Atlas from whom she was retrieved by a dolphin sent by Neptune/Poseidon. Amphitrite then returned, becoming Neptune/Poseidon’s wife; he rewarded the dolphin by making it a constellation.
Her offspring included seals, and dolphins, sea monsters that sometimes put sailors at risk. She had a son Triton who was a merman and a daughter Rhodos.
This piece represents the sand and deep mystic waters governed by Amphitrite; symbol of depth and knowledge…our deep hidden worlds just waiting to be brought to light.
The blue beads signify our inner ocean, while the shiny brass centerpieces connect this inner world to a thread that tunes into universal knowledge.
